Could this weekend be the one that Celtic make history and go level with Rangers on Premiership trophy wins?

Well, the title race has been less of a 'race' and more of a procession this season - let's be honest.

The treble-chasing Hoops are 13 points clear of their Old Firm rivals and have had the opportunity to polish their Scottish League Cup a number of times since it was placed in their trophy cabinet back in December.

And the four-month silverware itch could soon be scratched for the Parkhead faithful who have the chance to make history in front of their own supporters.

It was a momentous occasion they could not revel in last season, with a thumping win away at Kilmarnock officially securing a 13th title in 14 years for the club.

A shock Celts defeat to rock-bottom St Johnstone gave the Light Blues some reprieve, but they then followed it up with a chastening FIFTH successive Ibrox defeat as Hibs ran out 2-0 victors.

So, the big question is: can Celtic win the title this weekend?

The only scenario that would take Celts over the line and win a fourth consecutive league crown would be if they repeat the feat of 2024 by beating Kilmarnock, this time at Parkhead.

Rangers would then have to lose to Aberdeen at Pittodrie in their match 24 hours later to guarantee the title's return to Paradise, where the gap would open to 16 points with five games left.

However, if Celtic win and Rangers draw, it would be a 15 point gap with 15 points to play for.

Mathematically, Celtic could not claim the crown due to potentially levelling on points an in outlandish scenario.

In order for that to happen Rangers would have to win five in a row and Celtic would have to lose five in a row.

AND there would need to be the biggest goal difference swing imaginable with Celts currently boasting a superior tally to Rangers by 38.

So the title race would not OFFICIALLY be over.

But Rangers will have a selection dilemma if they want to stop Brendan Rodgers and co from clinching a 55th top-flight title - putting the two Old Firm giants level on league crowns.

Barry Ferguson and his players face Aberdeen having once again harnessed the mystical powers of the Thursday night lights to battle for a 0-0 draw against Athletic Bilbao.

With the return leg in Spain taking place next Thursday, fans would like a penny for his thoughts on if he will rest players in the league to focus on Europe - and the last chance for a trophy this season.

Regardless of the outcome, Celtic will still have to wait a month before they can get their hands on the Premiership prize.

Trophy Day will be held on the final day of the league season with the SPFL confirming that the top-six fixtures will conclude on Saturday May 17.

League chiefs will look to publish the post-split fixtures as soon as possible, following discussions with Police Scotland and broadcast partners.

It could be a week to remember for Treble-chasing Celtic who face off with St Johnstone on Sunday April 20 for a place in the Scottish Cup Final in May.
